By Keith Turney, Field Representative - Friday, March 28, 2014

Joliet Junior College Police recently settled a two year contract averaging 2% per year for two years.  Additionally, Specialty Stipends were rolled into the officer's base pay equating to roughly an additional half percent on the base.  The very committed and determined bargaining team consisting of Randy Graves, Tom Glisson and Joe Yates were faced with an onslaught of concession demands early in the negotiations process.  Field Representative Keith Turney was quoted as saying; "It was as if the gains of the past were coming back to haunt us throughout the negotiations process.  Our team held their ground throughout and was actually complimented by the employer's chief negotiator at the end, for their tenacity."  A short contract term was the strategy this time around.  This set of negotiations was about maintaining benefits while planning for future opportunities that will ultimately come about as the economy improves and the local political climate changes.  We're not going anywhere, nor will we be intimidated by heavy handed management tactics.
