Welcome and congratulations to the Johnson County Deputies and Telecommunicators.  This unit has reached terms with the Johnson County Board of Commissioners and Sheriff for an initial contract.  The unit made instant and much needed gains in wages, vacation, compensatory time, shift bidding, holiday pay, a grievance procedure and rights to a union representative if dicipline is necessary.  Prior to organizing, the unit was paid just higher than minimum wages, lacked pack radios and worked at the whim of the Shierff, with no right to compensatory time or overtime.  It is a marketable change in their standard of living, as the unit received just under a 30% pay raise, and we welcome the unit.  Negotiations were held in Vienna, Johnson County and the unit was assisted by IL FOP Labor Council Attorney E. R. Hall.
